Top 3 style rules

Three crucial things to make sure you get right in your writing.

1. Spelling

While we write with an international audience in mind, we use UK spelling for all our content. If you’re unsure of a spelling, check the Oxford English Dictionary.

Tip: Read Grammar and style to find out how we approach dates and times.

2. Terminology

Ensure you use the right terminology when referring to common terms at Brooke.

Brooke or the Brooke

We’re Brooke, not the Brooke. Brooke is a single entity so it’s always referred to in the singular.

Brooke is

Brooke are

Brooke works hard to

Brooke work hard to

Equid/equine

Use equid/equine freely internally but avoid using these terms in external communications.

horses, donkeys and mules

working animals

equid and equine

The exception to this rule is to avoid repetition.

Brooke improves the lives of horses, donkeys and mules by working with communities to improve their equine welfare knowledge.

3. Capitalisation

We avoid unnecessary capitalisation because it makes us look formal and sometimes even self-important.

Limit capital letters to proper nouns and titles.
