Headings
Headings and subtitles provide structure to the page. They help readers scan content quickly to find what they want and they break up long pages. Headings are also important for search engine optimisation (SEO).
On a website, headings have a hierarchical relationship.
- Heading 1 is reserved for page titles and is never used in page content.
- Heading 2 is used before Heading 3 and so on.
Headings should always be in sentence case. This means only the first letter of the first word in a headline or title should be capitalised, unless it’s the name of a person, place or job title.
